Description: The Public Works Director supervises personnel involved in maintaining water and sewer mains and lines, street maintenance, and the collection and disposal of refuse. The director is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing Public Works operations for the City, which include water and sewer, sanitation, streets, buildings, fleet, and grounds. The Public Works Director reports to the City Manager.
Training and Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred. Minimum of eight (8) years of work experience in a related field required, including three (3) years of increasingly responsible supervisory experience in related field. Valid State of Georgia driver’s license; equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements: Work may be performed indoors and outdoors, requiring the employee to sit, stand, walk, bend, crouch, carry, pull, balance, kneel, or stoop. The work may require physical exertion over moderately long periods and the ability to lift light to heavy objects. Must be able to lift and/or carry up to fifty pounds and operate various maintenance equipment, including a dump truck, bulldozer, and backhoe.
